SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Both unemployment and the local job market look good in the Peoria area last month.
That’s according to the Illinois Department of Employment Security.
Their data from the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates the Peoria area unemployment rate is at 4.7% as of March — down four tenths of a percentage point from the same period a year ago.
The state says the area has 171,900 non-farm jobs, up 6,400 from the same period the year before.
The state says while jobs were cut in the retail trade sector, gains were in Educational-Health Services, Professional-Business Services, and Government.
“Over the last 24 consecutive months, job growth has remained consistent throughout industry sectors in metro areas across the state,” said Deputy Governor Andy Manar, in a news release. “Newly created jobs position jobseekers and employers statewide to fill opportunities for career growth and professional expansion.”
