LEMONT, Ill. – An explosion at a petroleum plant Tuesday morning in the Chicago area has left at least one person dead.
Another person was taken to a hospital in Joliet after the explosion at Seneca Petroleum in Lemont.
The fire is under control after multiple agencies responded to the scene.
The Will County Sheriff’s Office says the explosion may have occurred in an asphalt tank.
Fire officials in the area say the public is not in any danger and no hazmat situation has occurred.
OSHA and ComEd have been called to the scene. The explosion caused some power lines to fall.
