PEORIA, Ill. – The price to fill up your car is going up.
GasBuddy reports the average price of unleaded in the Peoria-area is $3.87/g. That’s 4.7 cents higher than last week and 25.6 cents higher than a month ago, but 48.7 cents lower than one year ago.
The cheapest price found in Peoria on Sunday was $3.68/g with the most expensive at $4.09/g.
AAA is reporting similar numbers. It has the average price in the Peoria-Pekin metro area at $3.88/g. That’s 5.6 cents higher than last week and 24.8 cents higher than last month. The average is still 48.5 cents lower than last year.
Both GasBuddy and AAA are reporting the average price in Illinois is now above the $4 mark. GasBuddy’s $4.06/g average is 11.3 cents higher than last week. AAA has the average at $4.07/g, 11.2 cents higher than last week, 42.5 cents higher than a month ago, but 27.7 cents lower than a year ago.
“With oil prices touching their highest level of 2023 at nearly $83 per barrel, the national average price of gasoline has continued to inch higher, with 45 of the nation’s 50 states seeing prices rise over the last week. While the rising price of oil is likely the largest factor in rising gas prices, seasonal impacts continue to also exert pressure on prices,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
