CHICAGO, Ill. – The risk of COVID-19 spreading in Illinois is decreasing.
The Illinois Department of Public Health says just six counties are at an elevated level of risk. All six are located in northern Illinois, and at a medium level.
Last week, there were 14 counties at a medium level.
For the 4th straight week, no counties were at a high level risk of spread.
The department also reported 5,584 new cases of COVID in the state in the past week, with 16 deaths relating to the virus.
“It is great to see COVID-19 community levels remaining low as we enjoy some warmer springtime weather,” said IDPH Director Dr. Sameer Vohra. “While President Joe Biden signed a measure to end the national emergency this week, IDPH remains focused on reducing the spread of COVID-19 across Illinois.”
