PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria firefighters and paramedics were called just after 2 p.m. Monday to the 619 NE Glen Oak Avenue for an industrial/machinery accident.
When crews arrived, they found several construction workers trying to dig out a co-worker from a trench box.
Fire Battalion Chief Lore Baxter said the man was trapped up to the waist in dirt.
Firefighters took over digging and shoring up the dirt to prevent further collapse.
It took crews about an hour to get the man out.
He was taken to OSF St. Francis Medical Center for evaluation, but appeared to have no serious injuries.
