PEORIA, Ill. – We now know who may have been responsible for a shooting at a house Friday, and who later chased police until officers stopped him on a busy Peoria roadway.
Peoria Police say the shooting happened on West Gift Street, where bullets hit a home and gas line. Police later found the vehicle connected to the shooting near Randwick and Pagewood.
The driver got away from one traffic stop, but the vehicle was stopped at Charter Oak and War Memorial.
Tajurie Bennett, 19, allegedly tried to get away from officers again, striking several police vehicles.
Officers broke into the vehicle and took Bennett into custody. A so-called “ghost gun” with a fully automatic switch and an extended magazine allegedly was located in Bennett’s vehicle.
He’s jailed on what is termed a “federal hold.”
