CHICAGO — It was a Fourth of July weekend marked by violence in Chicago, with nearly 100 people shot, including two Chicago Police officers responding to a disturbance over fireworks, and five children ages 13 and younger.
During a news conference on Tuesday, Chicago Police Department Superintendent David Brown said there is not enough punishment for those who are taken to court on gun charges.
“There are too many illegal guns in our city, and too little consequences in the courts. On the Fourth of July weekend, officers recovered 244 illegal guns…making 86 arrests for illegal gun possession,” Brown said.
