PEORIA, Ill. — This Fourth of July weekend, there will be more get family togethers, BBQs and fireworks displays.
But, Peoria Police Captain Scott Cook said in the absence of the City’s Red, White & Boom fireworks on the riverfront, there will be a lot of neighborhood fireworks going off.
“I think every year we anticipate that we’re going to have an increased volume of fireworks calls. This year, it may be particularly so, but I think we’re staffed to attempt to handle the calls that will be coming in,” Cook said.
Cook said the PPD will have extra officers on the road throughout the holiday weekend looking for illegal activity, including drunk driving.
As a reminder, Cook said any fireworks that go up in the air, are illegal in Peoria.
“Things that are legal…sparklers, and some of the smaller types of fireworks that don’t explode or go up in the sky,” Cook said.
