PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria Police have released more information regarding a shooting that left two men dead Sunday morning.
According to Peoria Police, Josiah Hanson left an apartment to retrieve an item from a vehicle in the parking lot.
Around the same time, Rashad Williams was dropped off near the apartment complex and was walking to the 900 block of Crestwood.
Hanson was searching the trunk of the vehicle when he was approached by Williams.
During the encounter, both men pulled guns on each other and fired.
Both were hit by gunfire and ran opposite directions before collapsing as a result of gunshot wounds. Multiple bullet casings were found, and both firearms were recovered.
While Hanson was receiving medical treatment on the scene, he provided police with descriptive details of the person who shot him. Police said the description given matched that of Williams.
According to police, it does not appear Williams or Hanson knew each other or had any previous contacts.
Detectives have no indication any other people were present during the incident.
