SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Friday reported a COVID outbreak occurred at a summer camp earlier in June.
According to IDPH, more than 50 teens and adult staff at a summer youth camp in central Illinois tested positive for COVID-19.
All campers and staff were eligible for vaccination, but IDPH said only a “handful of staff and campers” had been vaccinated.
At least one person who tested positive was hospitalized.
All campers and staff went home and were asked to be tested and told to quarantine.
As the more transmissible Delta variant spreads, IDPH encouraged all residents 12 and older to be vaccinated.
According to IDPH, almost 71% of Illinois adults have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while more than 54% are fully vaccinated.
