PEORIA, Ill. — Beginning Friday, June 25, the City of Peoria’s Public Works Department is cracking down on signs posted illegally in public places and right-of-ways.
Thousands of signs are placed on City property and right-of-ways, on light poles and near traffic signals each year, adding blight and litter, and obstructing vision for drivers.
“One of the duties we’re tasked with at Public Works is to keep our public properties clear and litter free. That’s what we’re aiming to do this week,” said Peoria Public Works Deputy Director Sie Maroon.
Peoria Public Works Department is enforcing the Code, (Chapter 13, Article III, Section 13-53).
“No person shall display in any way any handbill, advertisement or sign of any kind on any public place or upon any tree, pole, hydrant, public litter receptacle, bridge, pier or upon any public structure except as such may be permitted by this Code.”
