CREVE COEUR, Ill. — A jet ski accident on the Illinois River Sunday evening has left one person dead.
Peoria Firefighters and Paramedics responded to 579 Wesley Road around 6:30 p.m. to provide mutual aid for a river rescue. A man on a jet ski had gone underwater and not resurfaced.
On scene, Creve Coeur Command confirmed that about 50 feet from a boat ramp, the man had fallen off the jet ski and was yelling for help.
Two of the man’s friends tried to rescue him, but were unsuccessful. They became exhausted, and had to be assisted out of the water.
A Fondulac Police boat used sonar to detect the victim underwater. Peoria Rescue divers then removed the body from the river.
The victim’s identity will be released by the Tazewell County coroner following an autopsy.
