LEWISTOWN, Ill. – Authorities from the Fulton County Sheriffs Department and the Illinois Sheriffs Association are issuing a warning about a telephone scam.
They say residents are often being called through a number that shows up as being out of the 224 area code and is from Cook County, claiming they’re from the “Fundraising Center.”
They’re asking for money “to help fight the Assault Weapons Ban.”
They say the Sheriffs Association never solicits by phone, and they say they only use the mail.
