SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Illinois may soon be able to enter the bridge phase of COVID-19 mitigations.
Enough senior citizens have now been vaccinated for the state to move into the bridge phase, which increases capacity limits in several different settings, but COVID hospitalizations are still a concern.
Gov. J-B Pritzker said Monday that it appears that’s changing, and that the state is on a good trajectory.
“I can’t say exactly what day that is. But, it feels to me, it looks to me, if you look at all the hospital admissions data, that we’re in decent shape,” Pritzker said.
Illinois’ latest daily COVID-19 totals include more than 2,000 new cases and 28 additional deaths due to the virus.
Pritzker reminds the public of the CDC’s good news…that in most cases masks are not needed outdoors for many people.
“And, I want to encourage everybody out there that hasn’t been vaccinated yet, this is one of the rewards really…that we all can enjoy the summer without a mask on if you’ve been vaccinated,” Pritzker said.
About 55% of Illinois’ population 16 and older has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. More than 32% are fully vaccinated.
