SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Wednesday reported 2,592 new cases of COVID-19 in Illinois, including 28 additional deaths.
70% of Illinois residents 65 and older have now received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, which is one requirement to move into the Bridge Phase before fully reopening.
However, IDPH said the state will not be moving into the Bridge Phase as long as hospitalizations due to the virus keep increasing in the state.
In addition, COVID-19 cases have seen an increase in recent weeks, according to IDPH.
The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity is just under 4% at 3.9%.
As of Tuesday night, 1,413 patients were in the hospital with COVID-19 in Illinois. Of those, 294 were in the ICU and 123 were on ventilators.
Nearly 140,000 vaccine doses were administered Tuesday in Illinois.
