PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria Firefighter/Paramedics Sunday morning responded to reports of a fire in an apartment at 2725 W. Trewyn.
Upon arrival, crews discovered heavy smoke emerging from a two story apartment building.
The affected apartment suffered significant fire and smoke damage, and its occupants included one adult and four children.
“The occupants had evacuated [the apartment] prior to the fire department being called,” said Battalion Chief Ralph Phillips.
The fire began with a child playing with a lighter, according to Phillips.
No injuries were reported.
