PEORIA, Ill. — On the day the Illinois Department of Public Health told local health departments they could open up eligibility for the COVID-19 vaccine to anyone 16 and older as long as there was enough supply to do so, the Peoria City/County Health Department announced how it would approach that issue.
Starting Apr. 5, all residents 16 and older of Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford Counties may receive the shot. This is one week ahead of the state’s previously announced Apr. 12 date for open eligibility.
A total of 204 residents of the tri-county found out between Thursday and Friday they have COVID. 132 are Peoria residents, 54 are Tazewell residents, and the 18 others live in Woodford.
Hospitalizations increased by one, from 42 to 43. Eight of the 43 were intensive care level.
Region Two remained in the “red” for one of the three key COVID metrics. The number of COVID patients in hospitals has increased in nine of the last 10 days.
The rolling seven-day positivity rate has increased to 3.9%, and ICU bed availability remained at 27%.
