PEORIA, Ill. — Three dogs died in a fire Thursday afternoon just before 2:45 p.m. in the 2800 block of W. Wyoming St.
Peoria Firefighter/Paramedics were called to the scene. There was originally believed to be three victims inside, according to what bystanders told dispatch and Peoria Police on scene.
“There were no people inside,” said Battalion Chief Ralph Phillips. “The home owner arrived at the scene later and confirmed that nobody was home at the time.”
Crews first on scene reported heavy fire coming from the front half of the house on the first and second floors.
Phillips said attacking the fire and searching for victims was a difficult task given heavily involved fire on main and upper floors.
The incident took around 30 minutes to get under control because of the head start the fire had before PFD response.
Overall, 24 firefighters responded to the scene.
The home will most likely be demolished at the completion of the investigation due to $85,000 in damage, according to Phillips.
The fire is still under investigation. No civilians or firefighters were injured.
