EAST PEORIA, Ill. — The Illinois Capital Development Board (CDB) Wednesday announced nearly $867,000 has been released for the renovation of the courtyard and upgrades for ADA compliance at Illinois Central College.
The funding will help address deferred maintenance projects on the campus that have been stalled due to lack of investment by previous administrations.
CDB will oversee the project’s renovation.
“With funding from the Rebuild Illinois capital plan, Illinois Central College will be able to complete long-needed maintenance work,” said Gov. J.B. Pritzker.
Local matching funds combined with the amount contributed by the state will bring the total investment for the projects to $1.1 million.
“The overall objective of this renovated space is to create a safe, accessible outdoor learning environment that includes an outdoor classroom with internet connectivity,” said Dr. Sheila Quirk-Bailey, President of Illinois Central College.
“This space creates an enhanced overall experience for the engagement of all of our students which improves retention and leads to increased student success.”
Quirk-Bailey added that she was grateful for the funding provided through Rebuild Illinois.
The Rebuild Illinois capital plan will invest $45 million in various projects throughout the state including roads, bridges, universities and more.
