PEORIA, Ill. — After requesting a discovery recount last Friday because he was down two votes to Democratic challenger LaTrina Leary, Peoria Twp. Supervisor Frank Abdnour has officially conceded his primary election race.
“I had felt an obligation to my family and those who voted for me to do what I could to ensure the integrity of the outcome with a discovery recount,” Abdnour said in a statement.
“Having now exercised our legal option, it is clear to me that there is no longer a path forward. I congratulate my opponent, LaTrina Leary, on her victory.
“I wish her nothing but the best, and do the same for the constituents who rely on the Office of Peoria Township Supervisor. It has been an honor for me to serve in that capacity for the last four years.”
Because there is no Republican challenger, Leary will run unopposed in the Apr. 6 general election.
