PEORIA, Ill. — Road work is under way on Western Ave. in Peoria for a major project that will completely reconstruct the road.
The stretch of road on Western that stretches about half a mile, between Malone St. and Lincoln Ave., will have one fewer lane after the work, according to Peoria Public Works Communications Specialist Alex Williams.
“We’re taking a four-lane and moving it down to a three-lane,” said Williams on The Greg and Dan Show. “On the outskirts — that’s where there will be the addition of a bike path.”
One of the lanes will be a bi-lateral turn lane, according to Williams.
“There’s going to be major road closures and detours in place,” said Williams. “Starting [Monday], people can start to see more of those signs and barrels going up blocking people from that area.”
Williams also said new lights will be in place along the road after construction, including pedestrian lighting on the sidewalk.
The project is expected to take over two years to complete.
