PEORIA, Ill. — COVID-19 has changed a lot in the past year…including how Wednesday’s Peoria State of the City address will be given.
Mayor Jim Ardis will give his final yearly recap on YouTube on Wednesday.
Ardis told WMBD’s “The Greg and Dan Show”, that no one was was prepared for what happened in 2020 with COVID-19.
“Going into last year, we had a balanced budget, we were putting a million dollars in reserve. The Civic Center was kicking butt, the hotels and restaurants were doing good and the unemployment rate was under 4%,” Ardis said.
The pandemic has wreaked havoc on every sector of the local economy, but business is looking up in 2021.
“There’s a lot of good things happening, a lot of people looking for good employees in healthcare, a lot of the manufacturing spaces and elsewhere,” Ardis said.
Peoria’s virtual State of the City address will begin at noon Wednesday.
