PEORIA, Ill. — A Peoria woman has been sentenced to 25 years in state prison after pleading guilty in connection with a hit and run crash that left a 10-year-old child dead.
43-year-old Karrie Brunswig was sentenced for Aggravated DUI as well as leaving the scene of an accident and several other drug possession charges.
Prosecutors argued for a 30 year sentence, the maximum allowed under Brunswig’s plea deal.
Defense attorneys asked for a 12 year sentence.
The crash happened in early November of last year when young Troy Erving was reportedly riding his bike home from a friend’s house along Northeast Glen Oak Avenue and Starr Terrace.
Court records show that in a statement of allocution at sentencing, Brunswig said that she was sorry and wished she could trade places with the boy.
The judge also ordered three years’ mandatory supervision once Bruswig gets out of prison.
