SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — In Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s annual State of the State/Budget Address Wednesday, he delivered a balanced budget proposal that does not include increases in income taxes.
“I started with the premise that hardworking families should not have to pay more when they’re stretched the most thin,” said Pritzker. “I want middle class Illinoisans to pay lower income taxes, not higher.”
Instead, the focus will be on “strategically maximizing federal dollars and bending the cost curve of government through flat spending.”
The proposed budget also closes nearly $1 billion in corporate tax loopholes, while strengthening safety net services for Illinoisans in need.
“I have always believed that our economic recovery both as a nation and as a state goes hand in hand with our recovery from the virus,” said Pritzker. “I certainly had no expectation when I became Governor, that we would spend all this time battling an invisible enemy together.”
Pritzker says another focus of the presented budget will be to provide assistance to small businesses throughout the state by setting aside a portion of new federal dollars for them.
The budget for fiscal year 2022 presented by Pritzker spends $1.8 billion less than in fiscal year 2021.
