PEORIA, Ill. — The Gift of Hope Organ & Tissue Donor Network Thursday launched its “Care4RCommunity” initiative by celebrating National Donor Day with a donation to Dream Center Peoria.
Gift of Hope Senior Community Outreach Specialist Lisa Dodson and Peoria County Coroner & Peoria LifeSaving Leader Jamie Harwood presented Executive Director of the Dream Center Peoria Andy King with a $500 donation.
“The Dream Center connects people right where they’re at, and they help them move in a direction in a positive way in their life with providing them the resources that most people take for granted every single day,” said Harwood.
“What excites me so much about this partnership with the Dream Center is that it fits so well and is so relevant to what we need today, which is care for our community,” added Dodson.
The donation will be used for purchasing a washing machine for the Dream Center’s DCP MOBILE program. The program will include three to four different vehicles that travel throughout the community to provide access to showers, food, laundry services and hair care for lower income individuals and families, as well as homeless people, according to King.
King also added the vehicles will primarily serve the Peoria area, but they could branch out to Pekin or East Peoria.
“We’ll go to different areas with people in need,” said King. “We just want to serve as many people as we can.”
The program will launch on April 24 in conjunction with “Serve the City Day.”
