PEORIA, Ill. — Drivers will be greeted with a little late summer relief at the gas pump as they set about their Labor Day weekend travel plan.
According to Triple A Illinois, the price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline on Monday (Labor Day) was an average $4.12 across the state.
“The gas price in Illinois has dropped throughout the state and also throughout the country. Every state has seen a decrease in what they’re paying at the pump,” says Triple A spokeswoman Molly Hart.
For those filling up the tank locally, the auto club shows the average price for a gallon of gas in the Peoria-Pekin metro stands at $3.92 per gallon, down roughly 54-cents from one month ago, but still well above the price of gas last Labor Day weekend.
Back then, you paid just $3.26 here at home.
Of course, prices remain well below the peaks from earlier in the summer, when a gallon of gas was going for $5 or more in some places.
If your travels take you to the Chicagoland area this weekend, you’re likely to pay closer to $4.43 per gallon or more.
