UPDATED 11:32 A.M.
LINCOLN, Ill. – The National Weather Service says storms are on the way to the Peoria area and points north, and severe weather is a possibility.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 4:00 P.M. for Peoria and Woodford Counties, and National Weather Service meteorologist Nicole Albano in Lincoln says winds may be the biggest threat.
“The main severe threats for today…damaging winds, 60 to 70 miles per hour or higher are definitely are main threats,” said Albano. “We could have some large hail, as well as a very low chance for tornadoes.”
Albano says areas from Peoria north are under an enhanced risk for those winds.
“Confidence is low regarding the exact timing of storms so be weather aware,” said Chuck Collins, First Alert Weather Chief Meteorologist, 25 News.
It may be the first of a couple rounds of weather moving through the area. The second could track farther south.
