SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The number of new COVID-19 cases in Illinois continues to move downward slowly.
The Illinois Department of Public Health says as of Friday, another 24,297 new cases were reported in the state in the last week — down less than 1,000 from the week before.
1,310 people are in Illinois hospitals because of the virus. 82 more people died in the last week.
But, there is some good news.
While 81 Illinois counties are rated as having medium or high levels of community spread of COVID, same as last week, only 33 counties are at “high” — down from 42.
In this area, though, Woodford Counties moves up from low community spread to medium, joining Peoria and Tazewell Counties.
