PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria man has been ordered to spend more than seven years in federal prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Assante Bangmon, 31, was given 87 months in prison Thursday after pleading guilty in April.
Prosecutors say Peoria Police approached Bangmon in a clothing store in February of last year to arrest him, knowing he was wanted on a warrant.
Bangmon fled on foot being caught later, but left his Jeep behind, which officers discovered had a dozen baggies of crack cocaine inside.
Bangmon could have received anywhere from five to 40 years in prison.
