PEORIA, Ill. — On the day Region Two graduated to tier two COVID-19 mitigation status, the Peoria City/County Health Department also reported the sad news of eight additional tri-county deaths related to the virus.
A Peoria County woman in her 90s passed away. She was a resident of Cornerstone.
Woodford County reported the death of a woman in her 80s. Her living situation was not reported.
Tazewell County had six deaths: a man in his 40s and one in his 70s who lived at Aperion Morton Villa, a woman in her 80s who lived at Generations at Riverview, and a man in his 60s, one in his 70s, and another in his 80s.
Additionally, 274 tri-county residents found out they have COVID-19. 172 of them live in Peoria County, with 80 in Tazewell, and 22 in Woodford.
Area hospitalizations continued a recent downward trend, with 96 area residents as of Friday afternoon in hospitals. Of those patients, 24 were in intensive care units.
The Illinois Department of Public Health allowed Region Two to move to tier two mitigation guidelines.
Under tier two mitigation guidelines, indoor recreational facilities like casinos and bowling alleys may reopen with limited capacity, and salons and gyms may operate at greater capacity than they may under tier three guidelines.
Indoor dining is still prohibited, however.
