PEORIA, Ill. — The long holiday weekend brought a slew of new COVID-19 cases and deaths throughout Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford Counties.
Peoria reported six deaths, Woodford reported nine, while Tazewell reported 10, for a total of 25, according to the Peoria City/County Health Department. The Woodford number was partially bolstered by a delay in reporting.
Four of the six Peoria deaths were of long-term care facility residents, as a male and female in their 80s who lived at Lutheran Hillside Village both passed away, as did a male Aperion Care resident in his 80s, and a male resident of Cornerstone Rehabilitation in his 90s. Two other men in their 80s also died.
In Woodford, a male in his 70s and a female in her 90s who lived at Snyder Village succumbed to virus complications, while a female in her 80s who lived at Apostolic Christian Home died of the virus. Additionally, a female in her 60s, a female in her 90s, two males in their 70s and two males in their 80s also were victims of the virus.
Tazewell County saw the deaths of a male and female in their 90s, both of whom resided at Apostolic Christian Restmor, and a female in her 70s, a resident of Aperion Morton Villa. Two males in their 60s, a male and female in their 70s, and three males in their 80s also all died.
1,264 residents of the tri-county tested positive during the reporting period. Peoria accounted for 597, 522 Tazewell residents tested positive, while Woodford reported 145 cases.
131 hospital beds as of Monday afternoon were being used for COVID purposes. Of those, 35 were in intensive care units.
Region Two, comprised partially of the tri-county, continued to check all necessary boxes to move to tier two mitigation status.
Rolling seven-day positivity rate, hospital bed availability in med/surg and ICU, and rolling seven-day average for COVID patients in the hospital continued to be above the lines needed for the Illinois Department of Public Health recommendation.
