INDIANAPOLIS — The NCAA men’s basketball tournament will be played entirely in the Indianapolis area, officials said Monday.
Due to the pandemic, all 68 March Madness teams will compete in a “bubble-like” format at venues in Indianapolis, Bloomington and West Layfayette.
“This is a historic moment for NCAA members and the state of Indiana,” said NCAA President Mark Emmert. “We have worked tirelessly to reimagine a tournament structure that maintains our unique championship opportunity for college athletes. The reality of today’s announcement was possible thanks to the tremendous leadership of our membership, local authorities and staff.”
The Final Four was already scheduled to be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in April.
Selection Sunday will take place on March 14.
Preliminary round dates will be announced at a later date.
The NCAA is working with local health officials to provide COVID testings for players, coaches, staff, officials and others connected with the event, as well as a controlled environment for the teams.
