PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria Public Schools teachers started the school year Wednesday without a contract.
Peoria Federation of Teachers’ Bargaining Chief Matt McCaw told 25 News, even after an hours-long negotiating session Tuesday, there’s still no deal for a new contract, replacing one that expired June 30th.
“When you look at the economic conditions that currently exist, both our district’s resources and look at inflation rates, if not now when? And, it’s time to take care of the teachers,” McCaw said.
The union confirms they will enter in to federal mediation in order to try and get a deal done.
District administration says they’re still optimistic a deal can be worked out.
