SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The Illinois Department of Public Health on Friday reported 7,201 new confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases and 157 virus-related deaths in its daily report.
As of Thursday night, the state health department said 4,093 people were hospitalized with COVID-19. 837 patients were in intensive care units and 496 were on ventilators.
The preliminary statewide positivity rate from Christmas Day through New Year’s Eve rose to 9.5%, up from 9% for the weekly period ending December 30, the health department said.
