PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria firefighters responded to a call early Thursday morning from the area of N. Ellis and W. Archer.
Fire Battalion Chief Josh Maroney says crews arrived around 12:15 a.m., finding heavy smoke coming from a home. Fire was found in the living room.
Crews prevented the fire from spreading, though the home sustained smoke and water damage on the main level and in the basement.
One person was home at the time of the fire. They got out before firefighters arrived.
The fire was under control within 10 minutes with crews remaining on the scene for about two hours checking for hidden fire and hotspots.
An investigator at the scene said the cause of the fire was intentional. The Red Cross was contacted to provide temporary housing for one adult.
No injuries were reported. Damage is estimated at $40,000.
