SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Both of central Illinois’ Congressmen will have primary challengers in March.
The deadline to file nominating petitions to run in next year’s March elections was Monday at 5:00 P.M.
Incumbent Republican Darin LaHood of Dunlap will be challenged for the party’s nomination in the 16th District by John Kitover of Rockford. Paul Nolley of Roscoe was the only Democrat who filed to run in the race.
17th District incumbent Democrat Eric Sorensen of Moline is being challenged by Montez Soliz of Rockford in the primary. Dillan Vancil of Gladstone and Julie Bickelhaupt of Mount Carroll are the two Republicans who filed to run in the 17th District.
Races for central Illinois based seats in the State Capitol next year appear to be set.
After Monday’s candidate filing deadline, only three races will be contested in November. None of the candidates will have a primary challenge, outside of write-ins.
Incumbent 73rd District Republican State Representative Ryan Spain of Peoria will be challenged by Democrat Nicole Dopler of Rapids City.
93rd District Republican incumbent State Representative Travis Weaver of Peoria will be challenged by Democrat Zoey Carter of Pekin.
Republican Tim Ruestman of Kappa and Democrat Lisa Diana Tejada of Lowpoint are the candidates for the open seat in the 105th District.
Incumbents who will not have a primary or general election challenger, at this time, include 87th District Republican State Representative Bill Hauter of Morton, 91st District Democratic State Representative Sharon Chung of Bloomington, 92nd District Democratic State Representative Jehan Gordon-Booth of Peoria.
There are three races in central Illinois for the State Senate next year, with the only candidates filing to run are the incumbents; Republican Sally Turner in the 44th District, Republican Neil Anderson of Andalusia in the 47th District, and Republican Chris Balkema of Channahon in the 53rd District.
