BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – A Peoria teenager has been arrested after allegedly crashing a vehicle following a retail theft in Bloomington.
Bloomington Police says officers responded Monday night just after 7:15 P.M. to a retail theft in progress on Empire Street, between Veterans and Service Drives, with multiple suspects fleeing in a vehicle after reportedly stealing merchandise.
Police say a traffic stop was attempted after the suspect vehicle turned westbound on E. Empire, but the driver refused to stop and fled recklessly from the area.
The vehicle reportedly weaved around other vehicles, before running a red light and crashing into a southbound vehicle at Empire and Clinton. The driver of the southbound vehicle was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, but listed in stable condition.
Four occupants in total in the suspect vehicle were taken to a local hospital for their injuries.
Police say the driver of the suspect vehicle, a 17-year-old male from Peoria, was arrested after being released from the hospital. He is charged with Reckless Driving, Aggravated Fleeing/Attempting to Elude a Peace Officer, Operating a Vehicle with No Valid License, Burglary, and several additional traffic citations.
