PEORIA, Ill. – Two people have been charged with murder in the shooting death of a teenager in a Peoria house last week.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says prosecutors filed First Degree Murder charges on Thursday against 18-year-old Cortez Smith and 27-year-old Jafari Robinson.
The charges are connected to the death of 15-year-old Keyaun Hardimon last Wednesday at a home on Sheridan and McClure.
Smith was ordered held until trial at a detention hearing on Thursday. Robinson was previously charged in the case, along with 18-year-old Curtis Jones, with both alleged to have concealed the shooting death. Robinson was also ordered held on a separate case.
Prosecutors say Peoria Police responded to the house on October 1st, and spoke to Jones, who reportedly refused to let officers inside the house. Another resident later on allowed police inside to check for possible victims.
Hardimon suffered two gunshot wounds, and his body was found in the basement of the house in a rolled-up rug. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Prosecutors say witnesses reportedly told police that Jones was in the basement with Jardimon and others when the shots were fired. Robinson was reportedly found hiding in a bathroom with a spent shell casing in his pocket.
