PEORIA, Ill. – The man accused of shooting two people in downtown Peoria early Sunday morning will appear in court on Friday for a detention hearing.
29-year-old Adrian Morris is charged with two counts of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon.
The shooting in the area of Main and Monroe critically injured a 24-year-old with a gunshot wound to the chest, while a 29-year-old male arrived via private vehicle to a hospital for treatment of his injuries. In the shooting’s aftermath, more than 50 people reportedly hindered emergency personnel from rendering aid to the victim. Five people have been charged with Aggravated Battery in connection.
Prosecutors say the shooting was captured on surveillance video, which allegedly shows Morris leaning against a car with both victims nearby, then firing a gun twice and striking both.
Morris was arrested on Wednesday, and allegedly admitted to firing the gun to police, but claims self-defense. Prosecutors say neither victim or anyone else was seen with a weapon.
