PEORIA, Ill. – A 29-year-old has been arrested in connection to a shooting in downtown Peoria early Sunday morning.
Peoria Police says Adrian Morris was identified as a suspect and took him into custody on Wednesday without incident.
The shooting left a 24-year-old male in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the chest. A crowd of more than 50 people hindered emergency personnel from providing aid to the victim.
During a search warrant at a house in the area of Gomo and Tonti Circle, police reportedly seized multiple firearms.
Morris is charged with two counts of Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon.
In a statement, Peoria Police Chief Eric Echevarria thanked officers and detectives for their work on the investigation, and vows to continue to find those who interfered with police in the shooting’s aftermath.
“Anyone identified as having fought with officers, obstructed them, or otherwise tried to stop them from doing their duty that night will be found and arrested. We will not stop until every one of them is brought into custody,” Echevarria said.
Five people have been charged with Aggravated Battery in connection to allegedly interfering with police during the shooting.
