PEORIA, Ill. – Hazmat crews were called to a North Peoria business Monday morning after an aluminum fire.
Peoria Fire Battalion Chief Stephen Rada says crews were called to AlCast on University at around 11:15 A.M.
Rada says one of the machines that aluminum is put into caught on fire, with aluminum spilling out and smoldering next to pressurized tanks.
He says the fire had to be smothered because it was aluminum, and water could not be used.
Rada says there were no injuries and the business was able to stay open for the day.
He says the cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage is estimated at $50,000.
