PEORIA, Ill. – Gas prices in Peoria have dropped 0.8 cents a gallon in the last week, averaging $3.32 on Monday, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 148 gas stations.
Prices in Peoria are 1.4 cents higher than last month and 10.4 cents lower than this time last year.
GasBuddy price reports on Sunday showed the cheapest gas in Peoria was $3.19 a gallon while the most expensive gas was $3.49. The lowest price in the state was $2.69 and the highest price was $4.69 a gallon.
GasBuddy’s national average price of gas has gone up 2.2 cents a gallon in the last week, averaging $3.14 on Monday, unchanged from a month ago and 1.8 cents lower than this time last year.
“The national average saw a slight increase last week, primarily driven by states that experienced price cycling just ahead of the switch back to winter gasoline,” Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy said.
“Florida, Ohio, Michigan, and Maryland— all states known for routine price cycling— saw double-digit jumps to average gas prices. Now that much of the nation has begun the transition to cheaper winter gasoline and with driving demand seasonally tapering off as temperatures dip, gas prices face additional downward pressure. We’re still on track to potentially see the national average fall below $3 per gallon for the first time in years this autumn, De Haan said.”
Meanwhile, AAA Illinois said the average price of gas in the Peoria/Pekin metro area on Monday was $3.33 a gallon, the state average price was $3.37 and the national average price of unleaded gas was $3.18.
