PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria County Animal Protection Services (PCAPS) is currently providing shelter and care for nearly 200 animals.
So, as part of a nationwide effort, PCAPS is waiving adoption fees Sept. 22 through Sept. 27.
PCAPS is joining animal shelters and rescues across the country in participating in the ASPCA’s Rescue Effort campaign.
Those 200 animals at PCAPS represent a wide variety including cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs and even parakeets in various ages, sizes and colors.
Adoption fees are normally $75 to $200 depending on the age and size of the animal.
PCAPS Shelter Supervisor, Alex Menke, tells 25 News prospective adopters need to make sure they are ready for the responsibility that comes with adopting a pet.
“Make sure you’re ready for ongoing vet bills, food, enrichment, all those things that come with owning a pet,“ Menke said. “You’ll still need to do that, and that does cost money still, unfortunately.”
PCAPS viewing hours are noon until 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Animals are adopted on a first come, first served basis.
