CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Hot temperatures and no rain is making central Illinois drought conditions worse.
The latest US Drought Monitor report released on Thursday shows all of central Illinois experiencing some level of drought.
All of Tazewell County is experiencing moderate drought, after only about 19% of the county was in those conditions last week.
Nearly 94% of Peoria County is experiencing moderate drought, with only a small sliver in the northern half of the county in abnormally dry conditions.
In Woodford County, about 82% of the county is experiencing moderate drought, a portion of the northeastern part of the county in abnormally dry conditions.
Most of central Illinois has seen less than a tenth of an inch of rain since mid-August, and temperatures have been in the high 80’s to 90’s for the past week.
Across the state, severe drought conditions are growing in southern and east-central Illinois.
