PEORIA, Ill. – The head of the Peoria Civic Center on Friday announced new shows that feature a mix of headliners and acts looking for a play to perform.
General Manager Rik Edgar tells WMBD’s “Greg and Dan” that country music artist Jason Aldean will take the stage with Mate Smith in January. Tickets for that show are expected to go on sale to the general public next week.
Aldean is known for songs such as “Try That in a Small Town” and “Trouble With a Heartbreak.”
Edgar says the Civic Center also gained from the closure of the Peoria Scottish Rite Theater earlier this month. All shows there were canceled after its operator, TempleLive, abruptly ceased operations across the country.
Edgar says he reached out to all affected shows.
“There were some shows, and it was smaller shows, expected to sell 700-800 tickets, and they were about halfway there,” Edgar said. “I started picking up the phone and saying ‘Look, this is a one-time deal. If you will stay in Peoria and not pull the show entirely, would you be willing to come here?’”
Edgar says the proposal included free rent, with the only cost of labor.
Two shows took him up on the offer. Storm chaser Reed Timmer will be at the Civic Center in October, while Blue October will be in December.
