PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria firefighters responded to reports of a residential fire Sunday afternoon on W. St. James Street.
Fire Battalion Chief Rick Waldron said crews arrived just before 3 p.m., finding flames coming from the home. A resident was able to get out before they arrived.
Three dogs and two cats were rescued from the home, but one cat was still missing.
An investigator said the fire was accidental, caused by grease igniting on the stove top. The fire spread to the wall, cabinets, and the ceiling.
No injuries were reported. Damage is estimated at $60,000.
The resident was displaced and made other living arrangements.
