CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The temperatures are falling across central Illinois but drought is growing.
The latest US Drought Monitor report released on Thursday shows abnormally dry conditions in all of Tazewell County, as well as most of Peoria and Woodford Counties.
Peoria County is 93.56% abnormally dry, up from 79.25% from last week. In Woodford, 82.39% of the county is abnormally dry, compared to 35.94% last week.
Abnormally dry conditions have significantly grown across the state, up to 63.82% this week from 20.02% from last week. The hardest hit areas are in central and southern Illinois, with portions of Piatt and Champaign Counties experiencing severe drought.
