WASHINGTON, Ill. – The Washington City Council took time at its meeting Monday night to honor the city’s former leader.
A proclamation was read by Mayor Lilija Stevens that recognized the 24 years of service by former Mayor Gary Manier.
The proclamation also recognized Manier’s “compassionate leadership” during the 2013 tornado, as well as a dedication to building strong relationships with state and federal leaders to improve the city.
In addition to the proclamation, Ward Three Alderman Bobby Martin also thanked those close to Manier.
“Thank you to his wife and his kids and his grandkids for their sacrifice that they had to give up for all those years as well,” Martin said.
Manier himself was not at the meeting for the proclamation, being unable to attend due to prior commitments.
