PEORIA, Ill. – The annual Run, Walk or Trot 2 Stop Blood Clots stepped off Saturday in Peoria.
The event is organized by the Deveraux Hubbard II Foundation in memory of the 19-year old Eagle Scout who died of a pulmonary embolism in 2013.
His parents are now spreading the word about symptoms that could occur.
Hubbard’s mother, Kristie Hubbard, is vice-president of the Deveraux Hubbard II Foundation.
“If you’re active, if you stay hydrated, you have a greater chance of not getting a blood clot,” Hubbard told 25 News. “We can’t change what happened to our son, but we’re committed to stopping other people from dying from stupid blood clots.”
Peoria’s event started across from the Bleeding and Clotting Disorders Institute on Norhmoor Road and utilized a portion of the Rock Island Trail.
Similar events took place in Michigan, Arizona and other locations.
