WOODFORD COUNTY, Ill. (25 News) – Smoke detectors may have prevented a tragedy in Germantown Hills over the weekend.
Fire Chief Chip Wilmot says fire broke out around 11:45 Sunday morning at a home on E. Golden Maple Drive, just west of Germantown Hills.

The fire started in the attic and spread to the roof. Damage is estimated at $500,000.
The family was displaced by the fire.
Several area fire departments responded to a mutual aid call from Germantown Hills, including Spring Bay, Metamora, Washburn, Washington, East Peoria and Creve Coeur.
